I am pleased to say that we now have a few more grandparents who have joined this international forum - including friends from the UK, Canada, Ireland and the States.

We thought about setting this up, because a few grandparents said that they would appreciate the opportunity to speak with others in similar situations.

I would be interested in finding out what you would like to gain from the forum, so that we can help you as much as possible. Perhaps you can start a topic - or give me an idea of the topics you would like covered in this forum.

Being the grandparent of a child or adult with autism presents particular challenges:

• being involved - but not directly
• needing information - but not as a parent
• needing support - but recognising the greater pressure on parents.

We have set up this important forum so that grandparents to offer contact with others, as well as provide information and opportunities to be involved in the work of Autism Speaks.  

If you have a grandchild or grandchildren with an autism spectrum disorder and would like to talk to other grandparents in the same situation, please post your comments here.
